Ideal for a retreat. </i></blockqoute> <p align=right> - Tomi Nagai-Rothe on visiting the farm in 2007</p></align=right> </blockquote> <h4>SHINTAIDO  A SPIRITUAL MARTIAL ART</h4> <p ><a href="/images/calligraphytightcrop.jpg"><img src="images/calligraphytightcrop.jpg" align="left" hspace="20" alt="Calligraphy of Ten Shin Kan." width="112" height="320" border=1> </a>The Farm was founded to foster the study of Shintaido, a spiritual martial art based on the ancient traditions of the Japanese martial arts. During his first trip to the Shintaido Farm, Master Instructor Haruyoshi Ito named the dojo Ten Shin Kan (Heavenly Truth Building). On a trip to Japan, he asked the founder of Shintaido, Hiroyuki Aoki to make a calligraphy that now hangs prominently in the dojo. </p> <p><i>Click on the images below to see larger versions of the house and dojo.</i> </p> <p></p> <BR> <BR> <BR> <p><a href="/images/housedojofall.JPG"><img src="images/housedojofall.JPG" align="left" hspace="20"alt="The house and dojo." width="213" height="141" border=1></a>The Shintaido Farm consists of an outdoor field, an indoor <i>dojo</i> (martial arts practice space) and two houses, on twenty-three acres of land in Deerfield, Massachusetts.</p> <BR> <BR> <BR> <p><a href="/images/zencircle.JPG"><img src="images/zencircle192x144.jpg" align="left" hspace="20" alt="The dojo." width="192" height="144" border=1></a>The dojo is a 40' x 64' space with 12' high walls extending to an 18' peak at the center of the space. It has an ash hardwood floor, pine walls, and many windows, including two large picture windows with views of the hills across the Connecticut River.</p> <p> We have hosted many Shintaido events with students and teachers from all over the world  including Canada, Europe and Japan. We offer our " heavenly space for these workshops. Attendees enjoy nature and have the opportunity to benefit from gentle movement and meditation exercises that are designed to ignite and enhance their learning experiences. It is just over 1 hour from the Hartford airport.</p> <p> Deerfield is in the heart of the Pioneer Valley where there is so much to do! Visit historic Old Deerfield, take in the views from atop Mount Sugarloaf, take a boat cruise on the Connecticut River, tour the rural towns and college towns . . . or simply enjoy the beautiful scenery. </p> <p>New England is known for the beauty of all of its four seasons. Spring colors are vibrant, full of promise  a time for renewal and coming alive. The living is easy in summer  bodies relax in the freedom of the warmth from the sun. Some would say the area is at its most beautiful in Fall  people come for  leaf peeping to see the brilliant foliage. Then Winter offers an austere beauty  a time to focus within. </p> <h4>The Farm is a Multi-Purpose Facility:</h4> <ul> <li>A site for local and regional classes within <A HREF="http://sne.shintaido.org">Shintaido NorthEast (SNE)</A>. <li>The location for national events. <li>"Living in community".
